Electricity distribution and transmission utilities worldwide are looking for advanced measures and systems to curb the theft of electricity. KOPS (KAMATA Online Protection Systems) spent many years in technology research to provide a solution to prevent energy theft and assist utilities in energy management. Our products focus on immediate fraud prevention with a simple cost effective solution that will complement an existing AMR (Automated Meter Reading) tool, as a security add on to the metering enclosure, or work independently. Our OT (Operating Technology) can identify fraudulent activity which is typically not picked up with smart meters and AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) applications.

About Us

KAMATA Online Protection Services (KOPS) is a private, venture funded company focused on energy and revenue protection in the power sector. Our IT and OT solutions are designed to detect and reduce electricity theft, monitor field assets and provide remote access and switching solutions for electricity utilities and telecommunication tower providers.

To address the growing problem of electricity theft and the demand for electricity loss reduction tools, KOPS designed and patented an energy and revenue protection solution known as KAMATA. (KAMATA is the Swahili word to catch or arrest someone).

KAMATA technology was ranked 4th most Innovative Engineering Innovation in Africa by the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK, and ranked among top 10 Engineering solutions by the American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME). KOPS has featured in Forbes magazine as a contender for the top 2 African energy solutions to have a real impact on energy management and carbon footprint.

Our products enable companies to remotely manage and monitor metering installations in real-time 24x7. The solution complements and addresses issues not supported in smart metering and AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) environments today.

KOPS use a combination of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) to monitor and protect the metering environment, prevent theft, reduce carbon footprint and improve service levels for electricity utilities, telecommunication tower management, and other meter dependent service industries.

Our products can be installed in high value LV (Low Voltage) customers, MV (Medium Voltage) large commercial customers, and HV (High Voltage) industrial customers. KAMATA OT devices are installed in the metering environment and are able to detect complicated methods of electricity theft such as meter bypass and loss due to faulty meters. The solution provides both physical and online protection using a smart lock with keyless access to the metering environment.

KAMATA DC (Direct Current) Switch is a new product designed for telecommunication tower equipment providers. The solution supports remote monitoring and switching functionality. It can reduce time spent on carbon fuel based backup generators when power is not available. The product supports both DC and AC meters, allowing companies to remotely control distant base stations.

Kamata Smart Device (KSD)

The KAMATA Smart Device (KSD) is an OT/IT three phase revenue protection system which complements our smart enclosure solution. It provides 24 x 7 protection, with capability to monitor and control the metering environment from a remote location, providing immediate cut-off of power if fraudulent activity is detected. KP is aimed at commercial customers (high usage LV customers 100Amps to 800Amps). This segment of the market is made up of large consumption customers with a high proportion of fraudulent activity both within the metering environment and externally via bypassing.

KAMATA Smart Enclosure (KSE)

The KAMATA Smart Enclosure (KSE) is an OT/IT three phase revenue protection system for monitoring, and managing high value MV & HV (11kV or 33kV) customers. The solution provides a simple and effective tool to manage access to the metering environment, replacing existing ‘lock & key’ solutions with remote authentication using a secure mobile app. The device has a lock, communications module, camera and siren which provides access to the metering environment with full audit capability. The smart enclosure communicates with our KMS (KAMATA Management System) application in real-time.

Kamata DC Switch

KAMATA DC (Direct Current) Switch is a new product designed for telecommunication tower equipment providers. The KAMATA smart switch is designed to allow operations staff at a centralized control center/remote location to manage and interrogate the status of remote relays installed at geographically dispersed locations. The solution is designed to address some of the challenges facing Tower providers today, such as time spent on physical disconnection/reconnection, excessive use of backup generators, tampering and power theft.

The solution supports remote monitoring and switching functionality. It can reduce time spent on carbon fuel based backup generators when power is not available. The product supports both DC and AC meters, allowing companies to remotely control distant base stations. The cloud based control system can be run as an autonomous application or integrated with other control systems via a RESTful Interface.

Kamata Monitoring Software (KMS)

KAMATA Monitoring System (KMS) is secure cloud based software providing 24 x 7 protection and monitoring. This is the IT component or system which allows users to create profiles, and access levels for users. KMS provides alerts, reports and full audit trails of all activity at meter level.

The software continuously monitors operating assets using our patented OT devices. KMS provides real-time alerts to the monitoring station, and messages to mobile devices for field personnel. The system can be configured to automatically disconnect/reconnect the metering device on intrusion detection, or manually via the remote control console. The platform can be easily integrated to existing third party applications such as Billing, AMI or CRM systems.
